Newport This Week

“Where is it?”

This was a tough one. No one guessed the building but some guessed the street.

On the reverse of this Stanhope photo is handwritten: “Thames Street, site of State Armory,” which is the site of the Sailing Museum today. The building with the awning in the old photo appears to be still standing today, though somewhat altered. The gambrel roofed building started out as a residence and the first floor was converted into a commercial space

Correct street guesses were received from: George D., and Larry B.

A new image will appear next week, followed by the current view, which will appear alongside it, establishing a rotating “Then and Now” format.
