All families are invited to participate in the “Take Me Fishing Day” on Saturday, Aug 13, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Sachuest Point National Wildlife Refuge, Middletown.
Saltwater poles with lures will be provided, and surf fishing clinics will be given by the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management.
Other activities include casting and baiting demonstrations, “cool casting” games and scavenger hunts. There will also be a fish hatchery truck with live fish and a demonstration of Japanese art of fish painting.
The first 119 children will receive a mini-tackle box in honor of the 119th anniversary of the National Wildlife Refuge System. The day is co-sponsored by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, RIDEM, & Friends of National Wildlife Refuges of Rhode Island. For more information, call 401-619-2680.
