School Bond Discussion Continues

The Newport City Council has called for a special meeting via Zoom for Wednesday, Feb. 16 at 6:30 p.m. to continue the school bond discussion. School Building Committee co-chairs Rebecca Bolan and Louisa Boatwright presented a funding request entailing possible bond premiums  (Action Item #6038/22 w/accompanying resolution) to the City Council at the council meeting on Feb. 9. It was decided more discussion was warranted.

There are members of the middletown town council that want to discuss a new joint education effort.
They understand Newport was not treated fairly in their last bid
to middletown ,but what is wrong in waiting a week or two to hear them out, in the end the most important issue is providing the best education possible for all county students ?

Bless you, Chris, for keeping the flame of hope alive!

We are in our tenth year since launching the ill-fated STEAM school campaign. Some of the same people who shunned our (volunteer) efforts then — are causing generations of our island’s kids to be stuck with two over-priced, under-sized high schools — five miles apart — with mediocre education plans, now.

I hope many more people — some who perhaps were the cause of this calamity — see the light and do what’s right for the future — now!
