Rose Dorothy (Marshall) Moniz, 98, of Ellery Ave., Middletown, formerly of Fenner Ave., Newport, passed away Jan. 1, 2015 at Forest Farm Health Care Center, Middletown.
She was married for 69 years to the late Frank S. Moniz Sr., who was decorated for his service in World War II.
Born in Newport, on Feb. 6, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Frank Marshall and Mary (Mathias) Marshall. She attended Rogers High School in Newport and married Frank in 1940. Before marrying, she worked at the Lincoln Store and worked domestically in many homes. She was a housewife and mother raising their three sons.
Mrs. Moniz is survived by her three sons, Frank S. Moniz Jr. and his wife Bernadette of Kerrville, Texas, Raymond A. Moniz and his wife Gayle of Sandwich, Mass. and Peter J. Moniz and his wife Corlis of Mendon, Mass., four grandchildren, seven greatgrandchildren, two great-great– grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Francis Marshall, Joseph Marshall, William Marshall, Mary Marshall Oliver, Helen Marshall Olson, Isabelle Marshall Lapane, Alice Marshall Kinnear, Marian Marshall, Irene Marshall Carvalho Duffy, Gladys Marshall, Evelyn Marshall Whitaker and Ann Hunter.
Calling hours were held on Jan. 6 in the Memorial Funeral Home, Newport. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Jan. 7 at St. Lucy’s Church, Middletown. Burial was in Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter.
