Relay for Life Gearing Up

The Aquidneck Island Relay for Life is gearing up, with team fundraisers to generate funds to fight cancer. According to Relay for Life Chair, Kerry Seibert, “Pre-relay fundraisers are an excellent opportunity for families and friends to share in the fun of the event and to support the mission of the relay.”

Team Solidaritee, a long-time relay veteran, will hold a fundraiser on Wednesday, April 16 at Papa Gino’s, 619 West Main Rd. in Middletown from 4-9 p.m. Papa Gino’s will donate 20 percent of pre-tax proceeds to the cause. Customers may dine in, carry out, or order home delivery, but they must mention the fundraiser. To order out, call 401-324-4212. For more information, call team captain Tee Gomes at 401-862-1239.

Team Second Wind and Asterisk restaurant will host an event on Thursday, April 17, from 5-8 p.m. at the restaurant, 599 Thames St. The evening will feature guest bartenders, a silent auction, complimentary appetizers, and drink specials. The team is also hosting Bowling to Beat Cancer on Saturday, April 5, from 4:30-6:30 p.m., at the Dudek Bowling Alley, 409 Child St., Warren. For more information, email

Seibert also commented on the slow start that the Relay has experienced this year, “We’re a little bit behind, and we are hoping that volunteers and newly-formed teams will respond soon. We have a number of meetings in the next month and hope that folks will join our efforts to cure cancer. There is still time to register a team and participate in this event.”

The Relay for Life of Aquidneck Island will be held, May 16-17, from 4 p.m.-10 a.m. at Gaudet Middle School. For more information visit or call Kerry Seibert at 401-855-0855.
