Spurred by his fond memories of school days past in Middletown, former resident William Kelly has informed the Town Council that he will donate $16,000 to the School Department to build a new computer center at the high school.
“Those were the most precious and incredible days,” Kelly said of his time in the Middletown school system. “I am very blessed to be able to do this. I hope you will accept this with my grateful appreciation.”
Kelly, now a Portsmouth resident, presented a check for $8,000 during a regular council meeting on Monday, March 3, at Town Hall. Kelly said the School Department will receive another $8,000 check during the next fiscal quarter.
Kelly said he would have liked to donate to all three of the town schools that he attended but that Middletown High School was the only one left. He said he spoke with schools Superintendent Rosemarie Kraeger and they decided that the donation could best be used for the computer center.
Kelly also donated $1,000 to the Middletown Senior Center and another $1,000 to Howland Park, where he said he attended elementary school.
