During the period from Monday, Aug. 29 through Sunday, Sept. 4 the Newport Police Department responded to 493 calls. Of those, 107 were motor vehicle related; there were 76 motor vehicle violations issued and 31 accident reports.
Police responded to 6 calls of vandalism, 17 noise complaints, 20 animal complaints, 8 suspicious persons or vehicles, and 49 parking complaints. They performed 2 private tows, 15 home/business alarm calls/checks and 9 liquor establishment checks. They transported 5 prisoners, assisted 7 other police departments and 3 other agencies.
In addition, 18 arrests were made for the following violations:
- 3 were made for disorderly conduct
- 2 were made for possession of scheduled drugs
- 2 were made for simple assault
- 1 was made for driving with an expired license
- 1 was made for shoplifting
- 1 was made for breaking and entering with felony intent
- 1 was made for possession of scheduled drugs with the intent to manufacture or deliver
- 1 was made for domestic simple assault
- 1 was made for a federal warrant
- 1 was made for duty to stop in accident, resulting in injury
- 1 was made for domestic disorderly conduct
- 1 was made for a bench warrant
- 1 was made for littering- water pollution
- 1 was made for embezzlement/fraud
