Paying Tribute

 

Art quilter Veronica Mays is currently displaying works of fiber art at the Newport Public Library. Her works can also be seen at Portsmouth Free Library. Mays, a former high school English teacher has been a quilter for the past four years and has had her works on display in many New England quilt shows as well as the National African-American Quilt Conference and at the Brown versus Board of Education National Historic Landsite in Kansas. In 2019 Mays taught quilting at the National Black Archives. She was a 2019 Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art grant awardee. More Black history tributes on page 2. (Photos by Susan Duca)
