Next Chapter for Ballard

The 13-acre parcel of open space conserved by the Ballard family in 1996 is beginning a new chapter. Known for its natural beauty, hiking trails, quarries, and wooded and open space, the park was once the site of the popular summertime Music Month at Ballard, Movies on the Rocks, and the fall favorite carved pumpkin patch. In winter, the park hosted an Illuminated Garden. In spring, the park is known for its vast fields of daffodils. The events were made possible by the Friends of Ballard Park, a nonprofit organization helmed by Colleen McGrath and a dedicated group of volunteers. The organization dissolved in late 2018 after more than 20 years. The newly dedicated Carol C. Ballard Park and Wildlife Preserve now boasts 72 preserved acres that belong to the city of Newport.
