During the period from Monday, June 25 through Monday, July 2 the Newport Police Department responded to 887 calls. Of those, 215 were motor vehicle related; there were 176 motor vehicle violations issued and 39 accident reports.
Police responded to 11 calls of vandalism, 19 noise complaints, 15 animal complaints, 15 suspicious persons or vehicles, 2 bicycle violations, 3 suicide calls, and 180 parking complaints. They performed 31 home/business alarm calls/checks, 2 private tows 10 liquor establishment checks and 8 school security checks. They transported 6 prisoners, escorted 1 funeral and assisted 6 other police departments.
In addition, 22 arrests were made for the following violations:
5 were made for disorderly conduct
3 were made for open containers
2 were made for vandalism
1 was made for driving with a suspended or revoked license
1 was made for domestic disorderly conduct
1 was made for possession of marijuana
1 was made for violating a no-contact order
1 was made for fraudulent use of credit cards
1 was made for possession of drugs with the intent to manufacture or deliver
1 was made for tampering/injuring vehicles
1 was made for bench warrants
1 was made for obtaining false money and personation
1 was made for shoplifting
1 was made for a false fire/police alarm with intent
1 was made for a required door to door sales
