During the period from Monday, Apr. 12 through Sunday, Apr. 18 the Newport Police Department responded to 416 calls. Of those, 93 were motor vehicle related; there were 76 motor vehicle violations issued and 17 accident reports.
Police responded to 6 calls of vandalism, 10 animal complaints, 10 suspicious persons or vehicles, 4 noise complaints, and 33 parking complaints. They performed 13 school security checks, 9 liquor establishment checks, 7 home/ business alarm calls/checks and transported 4 prisoners. They assisted 6 other police departments and 1 other agency.
In addition, 24 arrests were made for the following violations:
6 were made for vandalism
4 were made for disorderly conduct
3 were made for simple assault
2 were made for driving with a suspended license
2 were made for warrants
2 were made for possession of marijuana
1 was made for possession of drugs with the intent to manufacture or deliver
1 was made for violating a no-contact order
1 was made for fraudulent use of credit cards
1 was made for possession of a firearm
1 was made for domestic felony assault
