The Newport Fire Department has readied its newest piece of firefighting equipment, Engine #5, and deployed it to Station #5, on Touro Street. The new apparatus has significant safety upgrades, including a vehicle “black box,” greater water pumping capacity, and increased foam capacity to combat gasoline fires. This is the second new engine delivered under a capital improvement purchase; a replacement Engine #1 was delivered in November. By purchasing both engines under the agreement, the city saved $50,000.
