Newport This Week

Hunter Gallery

“Gilded,” a month-long exhibition of oil and gold leaf paintings on panels by artist Isabelle Lirakis, kicks off with a reception to meet the painter at the Hunter Gallery for the Arts at St. George’s School on Sept. 11 from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. The reception is free and open to the public. Lirakis’ images focus on specific moments in time turned into modern-day icons via gilded backgrounds, matching gold leaf techniques used by Byzantine artists. She occasionally sparks contemporary drawings with permanent marker onto her paintings to bring the viewer back to today’s world. Exhibit through Oct. 11. Stgeorges.edu.
