Genealogy 101

A three-session genealogy course, “Genealogy 101: A Step-by-Step Guide to Get You Started” will be presented by Anne Wagner at the Portsmouth Free Public Library free of charge. The course focuses on beginners who wonder how to get started researching their families; those who began their search but need guidance to continue; and those who want a refresher class. Enrollment is limited to 10 participants. Pencils and pens and paper or notebooks are required in class. Laptops and other devices are optional and may prove helpful in note taking. Handouts will include samples of completed family group sheets and pedigree charts to accompany blank forms for participants’ homework, a bibliography, and a list of other resources.

Sunday, March 12, will be devoted to the research process and will include a tour of the library’s local history and genealogy resources.

Sunday, March 19, participants will set a simple goal and write a research plan. Group discussion and individual attention will be available to those who need some guidance.

The program is free and open to the public but is limited to 10 participants. To register, click on the “calendar” tab on portsmouthlibrary.org or call the library at 401- 683-9457.
