Aquidneck Island Mentoring was established in 2004 during a meeting with then Newport school superintendent, Dr. Mary Canole, who became a mentor herself. The original participants were Sheffield, Carey, Cranston-Calvert and Sullivan elementary schools. Currently, all Newport schools participate in the program.
