Newport Police Log

During the period from Monday, Nov. 26 through Monday, Dec. 03 the Newport Police Department responded to 582 calls. Of those, 141 were motor vehicle related; there were 116 motor vehicle violations issued and 25 accident reports.

Police responded to 9 calls of vandalism, 4 noise complaints, 12 animal complaints, 16 suspicious persons or vehicles, and 32 parking complaints. They performed 39 home/business alarm calls/ checks, 2 private tows, 1 liquor establishment check and 30 school security checks. They transported 7 prisoners, and assisted 8 other police departments and 1 other agency.

In addition, 21 arrests were made for the following violations:

  • 5 were made for possession of drugs with the intent to manufacture or deliver
  • 5 were made for disorderly conduct
  • 2 were made for bench warrants
  • 1 was made for an open container
  • 1 was made for domestic simple assault
  • 1 was made for a sexual offenders address change
  • 1 was made for domestic disorderly conduct
  • 1 was made for weapons other than firearms prohibited
  • 1 was made possession of narcotics
  • 1 was made for driving without a license or expired
  • 1 was made for controlled substance delivery resulting in death
  • 1 was made for driving with a suspended or revoked license
