Marine Trades Discussion

RIMTA Future, an organization that comes under the umbrella of the Rhode Island Marine Trades Association and is focused on cultivating the industry’s leaders of tomorrow, will host a panel on career paths for women in the marine trades on Tuesday, Nov. 27, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Newport Yacht Club, 110 Long Wharf. They will discuss the steps they took to get to where they are today, the challenges they have faced, and what they see as the best practices for building a successful career in the marine industry.

The four panelists work at marine companies in R.I. and come from different sectors of the industry. Panelists include: Heather Hovanec, the first female boat builder on the Aquidneck Custom Composites team; Martha Parker, a big-boat competitive sailor and businesswoman who founded Team One Newport, a retail sailing apparel company established in 1985; Tara Regan, the first woman to be hired as general manager for The Hinckley Company boat yards; and Kate Wilson, a leader in marketing and communications and founder of risingT Media.
