Portsmouth Candidates’ Nights

The Portsmouth Concerned Citizens will conduct two pre-election events for Portsmouth candidates on Wednesday, Oct. 10 and Thursday, Oct. 11.

The Oct. 10 Candidates’ Night for Council candidates will begin at 6:45 p.m. in the Portsmouth Council Chambers, in Town Hall. It will be moderated by Monique Chartier of Anchor Rising.

In this election year there are 15 candidates for council; seven Democrats, two Independents and six Republicans.

The Oct. 11 Candidates' Night for Senate District 11, House District 72 and School Committee candidates will be held in the Portsmouth Council Chambers, in Town Hall. The first part of the event for Senate District 11 will begin at 6:30 p.m. and followed by the House District 72 candidates at 7:30 p.m. The Candidates’ Night event for School Committee candidates will begin at 8:30 p.m. The three sessions will be moderated by Kate Nagle, of GoLocalProv.

The Senate District 11 race is between incumbent Sen. James Seveney and challenger Stephanie Calise. House District 72 is a seat held by Rep. Kenneth Mendonca who is challenged by current Portsmouth School Committee Chair Terri Cortvriend.

On both nights, the moderator will welcome questions from the audience and an opportunity will be provided after each session to speak individually with candidates.

The public is welcome to attend and encouraged to submit questions for the candidates.
