Newport Police Log

During the period from Monday, Aug. 27 through Monday, Sept. 3 the Newport Police Department responded to 801 calls. Of those, 180 were motor vehicle related; there were 144 motor vehicle violations issued and 36 accident reports.

Police responded to 14 noise complaints, 17 animal complaints, 19 suspicious persons or vehicles, 1 bicycle violation, 8 calls of vandalism and 147 parking complaints. They performed 38 home/ business alarm calls/checks and 5 private tows, 9 liquor establishment checks. They transported 5 prisoners, escorted 1 funeral, and assisted 4 other police departments and 7 other agencies.

In addition, 34 arrests were made for the following violations:

  • 8 were made for disorderly conduct
  • 3 were made for felony assault
  • 3 were made for driving with suspended license
  • 3 were made for shoplifting
  • 3 were made for driving without a license
  • 2 were made for DUI
  • 2 were made for domestic simple assault
  • 2 were made for possession of drugs
  • 1 was made for bench warrants
  • 1 was made for violation of no contact order
  • 1 was made for tampering with a vehicle
  • 1 was made for child abuse in the 2nd degree
  • 1 was made for simple assault
  • 1 was made for vandalism
  • 1 was made for larceny
  • 1 was made for public urination
