For What It’s Worth

At a house call, in Bristol, recently I was shown an oil painting that had been in the same family for over 70 years. This oil on board depicts “The Forty Steps.” Painted with figures and sailing ships reflecting a Colonial era, with a little scuffing and in the primitive style and unsigned, I valued it modestly between $200 and $300.
