RECENT DEATHS

Carol Ann (West) Best, 80, of Newport, passed away Aug. 22, 2018. She was the wife of the late Leo John Best. Calling hours will be Friday, Aug. 31, from 4-7 p.m. at the Memorial Funeral Home. Her funeral will be Sept. 1, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Patricia Anne (Swanson) Booth, 61, of Newport, passed away Aug. 25, 2018 after a battle with cancer. She was the wife of James H. Booth.

George Christy, 83, of Middletown, passed away Aug. 25, 2018. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served in the Korean War.

Jacob Anthony Crowell, 28, of East Providence and currently working as the Boys & Girls Club Camp Director of Camp Grosvenor in Saunderstown, RI., passed away Aug. 25, 2018 after battling long term illnesses. He is a 2008 graduate of East Providence High School and a 2013 graduate from the University of Rhode Island. Jake was hired as the Club’s Camp Director in February 2016 after having worked at the Boys & Girls Club of Pawtucket’s Camp Ramsbottom for ten years. He served as a true role model and mentor, always going above and beyond the call of duty and never hesitating to put the kids’ needs before his own. He leaves behind his parents, Daniel and Trina Crowell (Blackmon) of East Providence; his sister, Rebekah Vieira (Nuno), of Pawtucket; his brother, Derek Obert, (Jessalyn), of Brockton. Jake also leaves his faithful companion, his dog, Aoife.

Joseph L. Escobar, 75 of Portsmouth, passed away Aug. 26, 2018. He was the husband of Alice Rosa Escobar. Calling hours are Friday, Aug. 31, from 10-11 a.m. at the Connors Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Donald N. Ludwig, 86, of Portsmouth, passed away Aug. 26, 2018. He was the husband of Patricia DeSantis Ludwig. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and served during the Korean War. Calling hours will be Friday, Aug. 31, from 4-7 p.m. at the Connors Funeral Home. His funeral will be held Sept. 1, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.

Evelyn Georgiana (Solmo) Marano, 70, of Portsmouth, passed away Aug. 22, 2018 after abattle with cancer. She was the wife of Frederick Marano.

Constance Unangst, 80, of Middletown, passed away on Aug. 24, 2018 at Blenheim Newport. She was wife of the late William Unangst.
