DivorceCare, a ministry of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church that offers hope and healing, will meet on Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. beginning Aug. 30, at 525 Broadway. This 13-week program will help adults cope with the experience of their divorce through video, group discussion and personal study. Chicken Dinner

The Church of the Holy Cross, 1439 West Main Road, Middletown, will hold its 23rd annual chicken dinner on Saturday, Sept. 8, from 5-7 p.m. Salad, baked potato, corn on the cob, half a chicken, pie and beverages will be served, and there will be a raffle. The cost of the dinner is $15 for adults, $7 for children, $40 for family of four. 401-846-7076.

Series on Aging

As part of its series on aging, St. Columba’s, 55 Vaucluse Ave., Middletown, will present “Get Organized,” on Tuesday, Sept. 11, at 6 p.m. 401-847-5571, stcolumbaschapel.org.

Bereavement Support Group

St. Lucy’s Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown, hosts a bereavement support group for those who are grieving the loss of a loved one. The group meets in the parish center on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month from 7-8:30 p.m. Upcoming meetings are on Sept. 13 and 27. St. Gabriel’s Call

This diocesan outreach ministry focuses on women and families during and beyond pregnancy. Volunteers walk with an expectant mother through difficult decisions and challenges. Gabriel Angel volunteers accept the mother’s fears and worries in deepest confidence and find ways to alleviate them. Assistance can include material items for babies and children up to 4-years-old, referrals to services, and access to social services available within the Diocese of Providence. Volunteers are needed at the local office at Jesus Saviour Church in Newport on various days for two to three hours, one day a week. For more information, call Carol Owens at 421-7833, x218.

‘Our Daily Bread’

Those in need of bread and bakery items are invited to stop by the food pantry at St. Peter’s Church, 525 Broadway, on Saturdays from 9-10 a.m. 401-846-9567.

St. Matthew’s Thrift Shop

The thrift shop, located at 87 Narragansett Ave., Jamestown, is open on Tuesday and Saturday mornings from 9:30-11:30 a.m., and on the third Thursday of the month (upcoming on Sept. 20) from 6-8 p.m. Clothing, books, jewelry, children’s toys, household items, furnishings and electronics are sold. Those wishing to donate items are asked to do so when the shop is open. If that is not possible, drop them off on weekday from 7:30-11:30 a.m. A donation form for tax purposes will be provided upon request. 401-423-1762.
