Middletown Celebrates

This year, Middletown’s Founders’ Day will coincide with its 275th anniversary. The festivities are set for Sat., Aug. 18, beginning at 11 a.m. in Paradise Valley Park. The park, which includes the schoolhouse that is the site of the historical society and museum, and Boyd’s Windmill, an eight-vane windmill (pictured here), will be one of two venues for the event. Nighttime festivities, set from 6 to 10 p.m., will take place at Sachuest Beach, culminating in a fireworks display. “We are excited to put this together for the people of Middletown and expect this to be an awesome event,” said Kerry Seibert, a member of the Founder’s Day 275 Committee. The mill, a symbol of Middletown, is one of the last two survivors of more than 20 known windmills that supplied the daily needs of Aquidneck Island. (Photo by Kirby Varacalli)
