Daffy Days Are Here Again

Daffodils in bloom along Newport’s historic Cliff Walk are a sure sign that spring has finally arrived, after a lingering winter. The bursts of yellow spreading cheer throughout the city are thanks to Newport’s Daffodil Project, a local beautification effort that has so far planted 866,500 daffodils throughout Newport during the past 10 years. The Daffodillion campaign aims to eventually plant one million of the springtime flowers around the city. What better way to celebrate spring and the blossoming of golden-hued daffodils around town than taking part in the 5th Annual Newport Daffodil Days Festival? The fun begins April 14 and runs to April 22 with numerous, mostly free activities for children and adults, including a daffodil stroll along Bellevue Avenue; a tour of Ballard Park where 18,000 daffodils are planted; and the popular Sidewalk Parade.
