Hooray for Hollywood

The Learning Center at Channing Church will present “Saturday Night at the Movies” on Saturdays, April 21 and April 28 at 7 p.m. Two films noir, “In a Lonely Place” and “Sunset Boulevard” will be featured. A $5 donation is requested.

Evensong and Benediction in Eastertide

On Sunday, April 22, at 4 p.m., St. John’s Church, 61 Poplar St., will present an evensong and benediction in Eastertide. Evensong will be entirely incense-free, while the brief Eucharistic devotion known as Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament to follow will feature incense. Trumpeter Rachel Long will play at this celebration. The service will be followed by a reception in the guild hall. 401-848-2561.

Resurrection Series

Rev. Alan Neale continues the series, “After the Tomb: Resurrection Appearances.” Discussions will focus on the appearances of Jesus after his resurrection and the way in which the resurrection affects our lives today. The program will take place at Trinity Church’s Honyman Hall on Queen Anne Square from 9-9:45 a.m., coffee will be served and all are welcome. Sessions will be held on Sundays from April 22 to May 13. 401-846-0660.

The Changing Table

United Baptist Church, 30 Spring St., offers the Changing Table, a program that supplies diapers and wipes for Newport County families in need. For more information, call 401-847-3210.

St. Mary’s Thrift Shop Closing

The thrift shop at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 324 East Main Road, Portsmouth, will be closing soon. Donations will no longer be accepted. The shop will offer reduced prices and will be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesdays and Saturdays until the last day of business on Wednesday, April 25. 401-846-9700.

Giant Baby Shower

The event will take place Saturday, April 28, from 1-3 p.m., at Lucy’s Hearth, 19 Valley Road, Middletown. Some of the baby items needed for residents of Lucy’s Hearth are baby wipes, lotion, baby shampoo, Q-tips, pacifiers, thermometers, wash cloths and towels, baby manicure sets, bulb syringes, monitors, blankets, car seats and diapers, especially size four and five. 401-847-2021.

‘Friendly Visitor’ Program Seeks Volunteers

Child and Family is seeking volunteers for its “friendly visitor” program, which provides homebound seniors in Newport County opportunities for socialization and companionship. The time commitment is as little as one hour per week.
