Boys and Girls Club Presents Awards at Second Annual Gala

Nine recipients and three Youth of the Year nominees received awards for personal and professional achievements relating to the club and to local youth.

“This year’s awards reflect the important role the recipients have played in Boys and Girls Clubs’ history but also demonstrate the true essence of community spirit throughout Newport,” said Joe Pratt, executive director and CEO of the club, who also emceed the event.

Newport Mayor Harry Winthrop kicked off the awards by announcing the Youth of the Year winner, the club’s most prestigious honor bestowed upon a young person. The winner, Terrell Bennett, was presented with two scholarships for his college education totaling $2,500, while the other two nominees, Najae Jones and Ajahnae Greene, received $1,000 scholarships.
