Lenten Concert

On Friday, March 9, at 6:30 p.m., St. Mary’s Church, 12 William St., will hold its annual Lenten concert. The evening will feature organist Rich Spotts, the world’s leading expert on Charles Tournemire’s works. Lenten music by the composer will be highlighted. Admission is by donation. 401-847-0475.

Friday Night Live

Music, movies, fellowship/outreach, food, and fun for teens at the CBC Annex, 40 Dr. Marcus F. Wheatland Blvd. on Friday, March 9, from 6 to 9 p.m. Free event for youth ages 12 to 14. Evangelical Friends Church to Open North Campus

Saturday, March 10, is the official grand opening of the north campus of Evangelic Friends Church, Newport. At EFC North, 14 Potomac St., Portsmouth, services will be held on Saturday evenings at 5 p.m. 401- 847-1490, efcnewport.com.

Breakfast and Bible Study

St. Peter’s Church, 525 Broadway, continues its “Breakfast and Bible Study” program on Saturdays, March 10 and 17, at 10 a.m. Sessions include a visual presentation regarding what it means to live a grace-shaped life. All are welcome. 401-846-9567.

Creative Journaling

Lenten Mission

As part of the Lenten preparations at St. Joseph’s Church, Rev. Joseph R. Paquette will lead this year’s Parish Lenten Mission. He will preach on the theme of HOPE at all the Masses on March 17 and 18 and he will speak at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 19, and Tuesday, March 20. The mission is open to the public and will take place in the church. Father Paquette, retired pastor of St. Theresa’s Church in Pawtucket, is presently State Chaplain of the RI Knights of Columbus.

St. John’s Palm Sunday Procession

St. John’s Church will hold a Palm Sunday procession on March 25 at Storer Park, Washington Street, at 9:45 a.m. All are invited to join the procession to St. John’s Church, 61 Poplar St., with hymns led by a trumpeter. The service will include music of Gounod, Victoria and Anerio, sung by the Professional Choristers of the Choir School of Newport County and the St. John’s adult choir. 401-848-2561.

Sheet and Towel Collection

St. Lucy’s Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown, is holding a sheet and towel collection for McKinney Shelter, located at 15 Meeting St. on Washington Square. This homeless/transitional facility that houses 41 people has a great need for new or gently-used twin sheets and bath towels. Donations, to be put in the blue bin at the church, will be accepted through Sunday, March 25. 401-847-6153.

Spiritual Practices Sessions

St. John’s, 61 Poplar St., offers “Our Year of Spiritual Renewal: The Joy and Discipline of Spiritual Practices,” on Wednesdays through March 21, from 5:30-8 p.m. Evening prayer and Low Mass in the Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament will be at 5:30 p.m., followed by a soup, bread and salad supper in the guild hall. 401-848-2561.

Wednesday Lenten Series

The Lenten series, “Loving Our Neighbors: You Did It to Me,” will be held on Wednesdays through March 28. Each evening of reflection, conversation and a soup supper will take place in the Emmanuel Church’s Guild Room, 42 Dearborn St., from 6:45-8:15 p.m. 401-847- 0675.

Lenten Gatherings

The public is invited to Lenten gatherings entitled “Powerlessness, Surrender, Radical Forgiveness” at St. Paul’s Barber Hall, 12 Marlborough St. Sessions will take place Thursdays through March 29, 5:45-7 p.m. 401- 846-0966.

Outreach Lenten Project

St. Mark’s Church, 60 Narragansett Ave., Jamestown, is collecting travel-sized personal care items for local shelters. Bags, located at church entrances, have been labeled with a list of items. You may fill the bag with all or some of the items. One shelter is looking for full-sized items such as shampoo and conditioner.
