Newport Police Log

During the period from Monday, Feb. 12 through Monday, Feb. 19 the Newport Police Department responded to 555 calls. Of those, 147 were motor vehicle related; there were 122 motor vehicle violations issued and 25 accident reports.

Police responded to 5 calls of vandalism, 5 noise complaints, 18 animal complaints, 15 suspicious persons or vehicles, and 44 parking complaints. They performed 22 home/business alarm calls/ checks, 3 private tows, 1 bicycle violation and 38 school security checks. They transported 6 prisoners, escorted 1 funeral and assisted 8 other police departments.

In addition, 23 arrests were made for the following violations:

3 were made for disorderly conduct

2 were made for bench warrants

2 were made for domestic simple assault

2 were made for domestic disorderly conduct

2 were made for simple assault

2 were made for vandalism

1 was made for receiving stolen goods

1 was made for violating a no-contact order

1 was made for possession of narcotics

1 was made for failure to obey a traffic control device

1 was made for larceny

1 was made for 2nd degree robbery

1 was made for shoplifting

1 was made for violating conditions of family court order

1 was made for possession of drugs with the intent to manufacture or deliver

1 was made for domestic breaking and entering
