Archaeology Findings

After the recent discovery of a significant underground stone structure at the Newport Spring site (the former Coffey’s gas station), the Historic Newport Town Spring Committee has announced that an archaeology study of the structure and surrounding area will be conducted next month. The archaeology study will begin the week of March 12. A public presentation of the findings will be made on Thursday, March 15, at 5:30 p.m. The location of the presentation has not been determined. Additional information about the study and the presentation will be posted to the project’s website historicnewporttownspring.org as it becomes available.
