Staying Open

Once again, as you will see, the editorial is “condensed,” so our readers have space to share their comments, concerns, ideas and questions. It is great to see such vital discourse.

Open dialogue (and open process) is important on many levels: in government, in families, and even in newspapers (see our responses to two letters).

While on the subject of openness, let’s acknowledge that the approaching Winter Festival began 30 years ago, when a few of Newport’s municipal leaders were open to the idea of a major winter event. (See this week’s special section for upcoming activities and some history on the festival.)

Our motto has always been to stay open to ideas and perspectives different from ours. And so it shall remain.

See you at the festival!
