11am-2pm: Ice Sculpting Demonstration, 12 Long Wharf Mall, ice sculptors wield chisels, chain saws, blow dryers and power sanders to create their works of ice art, sculptures will be on display until they melt, presented by Bailey T's.

1-4pm: Live Jazz for Kids, Greenvale Vineyards, 582 Wapping Road, Portsmouth, artists entertain guests with songs kids know and love in a jazz setting incorporating old-time standards, complimentary refreshments for the kids and wine tasting will be available for purchase for adults, free, 401- 847-3777.

6-9pm: Illuminated Garden, Ballard Park, Hazard Road, thousands of lights and displays in the park, wear boots, paths can be muddy, bring flashlight to use for walk from parking to display area, weather dependent event, check ballardpark.org if weather is questionable.

8pm: Annual Best Hot Drink Contest, The Red Parrot Restaurant, 348 Thames St., competition heats up as judges determine the Best Hot Drink in Newport, local baristas will compete for the festival award, guests will get to sample the concoctions and enjoy drink specials, free admission.

Friday, Feb. 23

11am-2pm: Celebrating Newport’s Black History: An Interactive African Drumming Concert, Emmanuel Day School, 42 Dearborn St., African drumming and dancing, African-inspired crafts, African art, and information on Newport’s black heritage, suitable for children of all ages, snacks will be provided, event is a collaboration with Emmanuel Day School, Common Fence Music’s Connecting the Beats program and Sankofa Community Connection, free parking across the street.

6:30pm: Bubble Mania, Newport Marriott, 25 America’s Cup Ave., show filled with tricky manipulations and juggling with bubbles, lots of comedy for all ages. BubbleMania is loaded with visual comedy, quick wit, big band swing music and the untamed, often unbelievable qualities of spherical liquids. Not a show intended to keep a 2-year-old engaged, this is a bubble show to keep the 5- to 85-year-olds mesmerized, tickets at the door $8, $4 with Winterfest bracelet.

Saturday, Feb. 24

10am-1pm: Colonial Career Fair: Colony House on Washington Square, a Newport Historical Society Living History Event. In the mid-18th century, Newport was the fifth wealthiest city in colonial America. At this event costumed interpreters will represent different occupations that would have been present, like a milliner and tavern keepers, free.

10am-4pm: Newport Car Museum “Hoods Up,” enter at Light, 1847 West Main Road, Portsmouth, more than 60 cars rock, rumble and roar, every car’s engine can be inspected and admired, five galleries including Ford Shelby, Corvettes, World Cars, Fin Cars, Mopars and six driving simulators, admission $18 for adults, $15 for seniors, military, and students, $8 for children ages 5-15, free for age 4 and under, $3 off regular adult ticket price with Winterfest bracelet, handicap accessible, tickets at door or online, 401-848-2277, newportcarmuseum.org. Festival Day at Easton’s Beach Noon: Polar Bear Plunge, join the daring for a swim in the frosty Atlantic Ocean with The Newport Polar Club. 12:30pm: Block Hunt, enjoy an old-fashioned block hunt digging in the sand and turn your block in for fun prizes, a silver block in each age category wins a grand prize, sponsored in part by H&R Block.
