After 628 nautical miles and one of the fastest races in race history, the 100-foot LDV Comanche was declared the winner. The protest was lodged as a result of an incident at the start of the race between LDV Comanche and Wild Oats XI. Wild Oats XI was penalized one hour, which was enough to give LDV Comanche the line honors title.

Newport sailors, both transplants from Tasmania, finished first and second in the IRC Division O. Volvo 70 Wizard, with Malcolm Parker onboard, took first, while Mascalzone Latino, with Justin “Juggy” Clougher as crew, was second in the 13-boat division.
