Light Up a Life Tree Lighting Ceremony

On Thursday, Dec. 14, at 5:30 p.m., a tree lighting ceremony will take place at Hambly House, 30 Red Cross Ave. The public is invited to place a complimentary ornament on the tree in memory of a loved one. The candlelight memorial provides comforting music, thoughtful readings and a way to celebrate the memory of loved ones. Reception of light refreshments will follow. Christmas on the Point

The Church of St. John the Evangelist, 61 Poplar St., will offer Christmas on the Point on Thursday, Dec. 14, at 7 p.m. The event will feature Benjamin Britten’s “A Ceremony of Carols” and the local carol, “Christmas on the Point.” There will also be a traditional reading of the “Christmas Story.” Suggested donation is $15, seniors/students, $10, children 5-12 are free. 401- 848-2561, saintjohns-newport.org.

Christmas Treasures at Trinity

Breakfast with Santa

St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth, will hold its breakfast with Santa on Sunday, Dec. 17, from 8:30 a.m.-noon. The event is open to the community. Pancakes, sausages, scrambled eggs, home fries, juice, coffee and tea will be served. The cost is $6 for adults, $3 for children 5-12, and free for children 4-and-under. 401- 683-1343.

Blue Christmas Service

Central Baptist Church, 99 Narragansett Ave., Jamestown, will have a Blue Christmas service on Sunday, Dec. 17, at 2 p.m. 401-423- 1651.

Live Nativity

St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 525 Broadway, will present a live Nativity on Sunday, Dec. 17, from 4-6 p.m. Hear the “Voices in Unity” from Mt. Zion AME Church and the Community Baptist Church at 4 p.m. Watch the Nativity Story on a big screen or dress up and be part of the Live Nativity at 4:15 p.m. Enjoy cookies and cocoa and make crafts, pet the sheep with photo opportunities, and sing your favorite carols with the angels at 5:45 p.m. In case of bad weather, all activities will be held inside. 401-846-9567.

Bereavement Support Group

St. Lucy’s Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown, will offer a special Our Lady of Sorrows Bereavement Support Group session titled “Coping with the Holidays” on Monday, Dec. 18, from 7-8:30 p.m. It is most appropriate for adults at least three weeks beyond their loss. 401-847-6183.

Circle of Soul

Every third Wednesday from 5:45-7 p.m., St. Paul’s Methodist Church, 12 Marlborough St., invites the public to participate in the flow of rhythmic attunements, group improvisations, songs and worldbeat rhythms. The next meeting will take place on Dec. 20. 401-846-0966.

Winter Solstice Sound Healing Concert

Warming Center

Warm Up Wednesdays
