Ballard Rocks!

Friends of Ballard Park is offering a home school class in geology on Wednesday, Dec. 13, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. The class is best suited for children 6 to 12 years old. Participants will explore Ballard Park, hike trails, participate in hands-on activities and learn about the three rock types: sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic. Students will learn how these rocks were formed and sculpted by glaciers and erosion. Teams will work together to identify rock samples. Students will also discover how humans influence geology and other natural resources. Cost is $5 per child. Adults get in free and encouraged to attend. FBP will also offer a winter ecology class in January and an Art in the Park class in February.
