Operation Christmas Child

Evangelical Friends Church, 70 Bliss Mine Road, Middletown, is taking donations for Operation Christmas Child on Thursday, Nov. 16, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. and on Friday, Nov. 17, from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Fill a shoebox with school supplies, hygiene items and fun toys for children living in poverty overseas. Choral Evensong and Benediction

St. John’s Church, 61 Poplar St., will host a choral evensong and Benediction for the 123rd Feast of Dedication on Sunday, Nov. 19, at 4 p.m. The nearest parking lot is at 25 Willow St. Reception will follow. 401-848-2561.

Blood Drive

A blood drive will be held at St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth, on Sunday, Nov. 19, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., in the parish center. Visit ribc.org if you would like to make an appointment. The sponsor code is 1255. 401-683- 1343.

Book Club

The Emmanuel Church book group will meet in the guild room, 42 Dearborn St., on Nov. 21 at 6 p.m., to discuss “The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August,” by Claire North. All are welcome. 401-847-0675.

Interfaith Service

The annual interfaith Thanksgiving service will be held at Temple Shalom on Wednesday, Nov. 22 at 7 p.m. People of all faiths and backgrounds are invited to come together in unity and peace, no reservations necessary.

Community Meals

• The Portsmouth United Methodist Church, 2732 East Main Road, will host a complimentary Thanksgiving Day dinner for anyone who wishes to break bread together and share fellowship. It will be held on Thursday, Nov. 23, from noon-3 p.m. 401-683-4005.

• Seamen’s Church Institute offers a community meal prepared by local chef and former restaurateur Kim Comfort and team of volunteers on Thursday, Nov. 23, from noon-2p.m.

• Salvation Army on Nov. 23.

Lunch and Learn

Learn about the traditions of the Shabbat morning service at Temple Shalom on Monday, Nov. 27 and Dec. 4, from 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. those attending are asked to bring a dairy or vegetarian lunch and a beverage.
