Gifting Birthdays

More than 170 Amica executives flocked to the insurance company’s annual conference, held this year on Sept. 27 at Gurney’s Newport Resort. Attendees worked in teams to help Middletown-based Confetti Foundation achieve its mission: throw birthday parties for children who are sick in the hospital. For the past three years, Amica has partnered with a different nonprofit organization on a specific charitable giving project. This year, the insurance giant donated $10,000 to Confetti, which was founded in 2014 and now works with 153 hospitals nationwide. The nonprofit uses all donations to give birthday boxes to hospitals so sick kids can still celebrate, and the birthday boxes from the Amica conference will go to New England hospitals. “We’ve never received any type of grant, [so] we depend on businesses that believe in our mission,” said Confetti founder and CEO Stephanie Frazier Grimm, as Amica execs stuffed festive boxes with streamers, birthday cards, crayons, balloons, stickers and banners, among other goodies. “It’s a lot of money. That [Amica donation] is 400 birthdays for us.” (Photo by Joseph T. O’Connor)
