Photo Contest Winners


First place in Flora was awarded to Pam Marsden of Bristol for “Bee Haven” at Sachuest Point First place in Flora was awarded to Pam Marsden of Bristol for “Bee Haven” at Sachuest Point The Friends of the National Wildlife Refuges (NWR) of Rhode Island announced the winners of their 17th annual amateur photo competition. Contestants were asked to submit photos taken on one of the five National Wildlife Refuges in Rhode Island. The Refuges are Ninigret NWR in Charlestown, Trustom Pond NWR in South Kingstown, John H. Chafee NWR at Pettaquamscutt Cove in South Kingstown and Narragansett, Sachuest Point NWR in Middletown and Block Island NWR.

Awards will be presented to all of the above winners at the opening reception for the exhibit on Sunday, Sept. 17 at Sachuest Point NWR Visitors Center. All photos entered will remain on exhibit at the Sachuest Point NWR until Oct. 2. Then they will move to Kettle Pond Visitors Center in Charlestown, and be on exhibit there until Oct. 17.

The “Best in Show” has been awarded to “Grass,” taken by Gerry Mateo of Charlestown, at Trustom Pond National Wildlife Refuge. "The People’s Choice" Award was given to Alan Rote for his “I Hear You.”
