Books on the Beach

This year’s featured authors were Alyson Richman, whose most recent book is “The Velvet Hours,” and Joanna Rakoff, author of “My Salinger Year.”

Hadassah Rhode Island is a part of Hadassah, the Women’s Zionist Organization of America which was founded in 1912 and now has more than 330,000 members, associates and supporters. Hadassah works to enhance people’s lives through its support of medical care and research at the Hadassah Medical Organization in Jerusalem. Hadassah today supports research in fields such as ALS, MS, Parkinson’s disease and macular degeneration.

Chairwomen of this event were Lorraine Rappoport and BettyAnn Israelit. Both are also past presidents of Hadassah. Rita Slom of Newport, past chapter and region president and member of the national board, was given the honor at the luncheon of saying the Blessing over the Bread.
