For What It’s Worth

The pictured cross was offered for sale, with the buyer stating that her mother purchased it on The Ponte Vecchio, believing that it was worth several thousand dollars. Examination revealed no hallmarks or indication of gold content. She agreed to leave it with us, and our jewelry restorer confirmed our suspicion that the cross was costume, proving that “All that glitters is not gold.”
