So, I’m Getting Older, So What?

Preparation is the key to much. Following the recent sessions at St. Columba’s on retirement planning and designing one’s own funeral, a new three-part series is being offered. On Tuesday, Aug. 1, at 6 p.m., a talk titled “Even the Ancient Egyptians Prepared for Death” will be presented by Lois Rogers and Sara Chadwick. The talk will be about the loss of a spouse or a parent, and what your children or siblings need to know about your affairs. Who will write the obituary or plan the funeral? This free series is open to all parishioners and nonparishioners alike, adult children welcome. All sessions will last approximately 90 minutes, with plenty of time for questions. Summer Concerts

St. Mary’s Church, 12 William St., is offering free organ concerts on Sundays at 3 p.m. throughout the summer. The concerts feature the newly-restored pipe organ and organists from around the region. 401-847-0475.

Royal School of Church Music Performances

Nearly 120 singers from around the country who are in Newport for a week of intensive musical training through the Royal School of Church Music will perform at two churches. On Wednesday, Aug. 2, at 7:30 p.m., St. Joseph's Church, 5 Mann Ave., will present a hymn festival. The festival intersperses readings and hymns for a service lasting approximately 45 minutes. On Thursday, Aug. 3, at 5 p.m., a choral evensong will be held at St. George's School Chapel, 372 Purgatory Road, Middletown. All are welcome. For more information, visit rscmamerica.org.

‘Music on the Lawn’

St. John the Evangelist, 61 Poplar St., will hold “Music on the Lawn” on Thursday, Aug. 3, from 6-7:45 p.m., featuring Hymn Sing led by Peter Berton. Some seating and tables will be available for those who arrive early. Otherwise, bring blankets and lawn chairs. Food truck service, beer and wine will be available. Donations are appreciated. Four Faiths Walking Tour

There will be a walking tour of four houses of worship on Tuesdays, through Oct. 31, from 1-4 p.m. The tour starts at Touro Synagogue. Visitors can explore the Loeb Center, admission included in the ticket. To fully enjoy the exhibits, it is suggested you arrive at 12:30 p.m. After visiting the synagogue, visitors will be escorted to Trinity Church, Newport Congregational Church and St. Mary’s Church. ‘Bach and Friends at Quarter Till’ Organ Recitals

The “Bach and Friends at Quarter Till” summer weekend organ recital series will be held on Saturdays and Sundays until Sept. 3 at Saint John’s Church, 61 Poplar St. Programs are held on Saturdays at 11:45 a.m. and 2:45 p.m., Sundays at 5:45 p.m. and 8:45 p.m. except for July 23 when there will not be an 8:45 p.m. recital.
