Newport Police Log

During the period from Monday, July 3 through Monday, July 10, the Newport Police Department responded to 1143 calls. Of those, 198 were motor vehicle related; there were 156 motor vehicle violations issued and 42 accident reports.

Police responded to 10 calls of vandalism, 27 noise complaints, 21 animal complaints, 21 suspicious persons or vehicles, 12 bicycle violations and 313 parking complaints. They performed 69 home/business alarm calls/ checks, 21 fireworks complaints, 7 liquor establishment checks and 1 private tow. They transported 8 prisoners, and assisted 6 other police departments and 4 agencies.

In addition, 48 arrests were made for the following violations:

7 were made for possession of a stolen vehicle

7 were made for noise

6 were made for disorderly conduct

4 were made for simple assault

4 were made for driving without a license

3 were made for larceny

2 were made for bench warrants

2 were made for DUI

2 were made for domestic simple assault

1 was made for underage drinking

1 was made for breaking and entering

1 was made for sexual assault

1 was made for carrying a pistol without a permit

1 was made for littering

1 was made for obstructing an officer

1 was made for obtaining money under false pretenses

1 was made for first degree child molestation

1 was made for possession of marijuana

1 was made for conspiracy

1 was made for tampering with vehicles
