‘A Novel Evening’ Fundraiser was a Festive Event

Rita Slom and Joe Logue Rita Slom and Joe Logue In a word, "festive" is a perfect way to describe the Newport Public Library’s recent fundraiser “A Novel Evening at the Beach.” Guests were encouraged to wear flip flops, dress casually, and give a salute to the event’s honorary chair, Rita Slom, while taking a ride on one the Easton’s Beach merry-goround horses. Steel pianist Aaron Abramson Cote’s Caribbean sound added to the festive feel of the evening. Marlen Scalzi, the coordinator of the fundraiser, was assisted by 15 dedicated event committee members.

Funds raised will support the library’s digital and technological resources and assist with on-going refurbishing plans. The Newport Public Library is not a city department, but an independent nonprofit organization that is open 60 hours each week and virtually 24/7 on-line.
