For What It’s Worth

A local resident recently brought in a map of Narragansett Bay, inquiring about its rarity and value. I recognized it as one from a late 19th-century paperback titled “Newport Illustrated” by C. H. Hammett. It was once attached to the back of the book as a fold out and was probably from the third edition. Early Newport maps can be valuable. Generally, the earlier, the more valuable. But this one, if nicely framed, would fetch under $100.
