Teachers Rock!

Music teachers in Newport’s public schools gathered Wednesday, May 10 to participate in training from Little Kids Rock, a leading, nonprofit provider of free instruments and music instruction in public schools throughout the nation. This new crop of Little Kids Rock-trained teachers at Newport schools will be receiving around 100 musical instruments such as guitars, drum sets and keyboards, which they will use to teach music to the district’s 2,000-plus students, using the national nonprofit’s curriculum. Newport Public Schools purchased the instruments through funding provided by the Bazarsky Family Foundation. Little Kids Rock’s programs teach popular musical styles from the last 60 years and utilize a method that focuses on improvisation, composition and helping students to play on day one. The organization's innovative program is designed to ensure that students are exposed to diverse music styles.
