Newport Police Log

During the period from Monday, April 21 through Monday, May 1, the Newport Police Department responded to 609 calls. Of those, 118 were motor vehicle related; there were 100 motor vehicle violations issued and 18 accident reports.

Police responded to 13 calls of vandalism, 13 noise complaints, 19 animal complaints, a shot fired, found a dead body, 14 suspicious persons or vehicles, and 1 suicide call. They performed 16 home/ business alarm calls/checks, 3 school security checks. They transported 5 prisoners, made a private tow and were escorts for a funeral. Police held 6 DARE classes, assisted 7 other police departments and 4 agencies.

In addition, 32 arrests were made for the following violations:

2 were made for breaking & entering

2 were made for possession of drugs with intent to deliver

2 were made for driving with suspended license

2 were made for vandalism

2 were made for open container

1 was made for trespassing

1 was made for violation of no contact order

1 was made for possession of an illegal weapon

1 was made for false report of a crime

1 was made for noise

1 was made for larceny

1 was made for driving with expired license

1 was made for failure to register as sex offender

1 was made for fugitive from justice
