Think clean and think green is an unofficial motto for the next week or so, as residents celebrate Earth Day. This year, the specified anniversary date, April 22, falls conveniently on Saturday. Newport’s Clean City Program invites residents to volunteer for one of the many cleanup events happening in honor of 2017’s Earth Day celebration.

Clean Ocean Access will be hosting a handful of events in the area. Visit cleanoceanaccess.org for all the details.
Friends of the Waterfront and Friends of King Park will sponsor a park cleanup on April 22, from 9 a.m. to noon at King Park. Bags and gloves will be supplied, all are welcome. (newportwaterfront.org)

The Off Broadway Neighborhood Association and Newport Rotary invite all community groups or individuals to join them for “project clean sweep” of the Broadway neighborhood and Equality Park. Brooms will be distributed at the Firehouse Theater at 8 a.m. on April 22. For more information, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
At Ballard Park, gather to give Newport’s only nature preserve a spring cleaning from 9 to 11 a.m. Volunteers will pick up litter, prune trails, and remove invasive plants. Rain date is Sunday, April 23. (ballardpark.org)
