Peace Circle

Join hands on Easton's Beach, Memorial Blvd., on Saturday, April 15, at 4-4:15 p.m., to stand side-by-side in silence, meditate or say a silent prayer for world peace.

St. Mary’s Closing April 17-May 5

Due to the magnitude of the St. Mary’s organ reconstruction, St. Mary’s Church will close for two weeks, beginning April 17. Daily and weekend Mass and funerals will be celebrated at St. Augustin’s Church. The schedule will remain the same, with both parishes sharing the 9:30 a.m. Mass.

Newport Music Festival Concert

Pianist Tim Carey will perform on Friday, April 21 at St. Matthew’s Church, 87 Narragansett Ave., Jamestown. A reception will be held at 6 p.m., with the concert to follow at 7 p.m. Tickets are $35. Family Movie Night

Quilt Show

More than 100 quilts made by the Quilters by the Sea Quilt Guild will be on display on April 22-23, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.at Portsmouth Middle School, 125 Jepson Lane, Portsmouth. Admission is $8. No charge for children under 12. Two quilts, made in collaboration with the Advocacy Project Quilts, represent an international collaboration with women refugees from the Middle East who have sought refuge in Amman, Jordan, under the auspices of the Advocacy Project. The artists produced the embroidery with support from the Collateral Repair Project, an organization that assists refugees and other victims of war and conflict in Amman. Feeding Children in Haiti

A fundraiser to help feed the children of the Haiti Mountain School who were devastated by Hurricane Matthew will be held on Sunday, April 23, from 4:30-7 p.m. at The Fifth Element. A $25 donation will provide lunches for 100 students. In addition, Middletown High School senior Haley Sellar is collecting school supplies to be sent to Haiti. Special Evensong and Benediction

St. John the Evangelist, 61 Poplar St., will offer a special evensong and benediction on Sunday, April 23, at 4 p.m. Evensong will be incense-free, while the brief Eucharistic devotion known as Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament will feature incense. Several choirs will perform, along with the Rhode Island College Brass Quintet. The service will include a special ceremony of investiture. Prison System Film Screening

Join the Sankofa Community Connection and Emmanuel Church, 42 Dearborn St., for a presentation of Ava DuVernay's documentary “13th” on Tuesday, April 25, at 6:30 p.m. The film takes an in-depth look at the prison system in the United States and its history of racial inequality. Friends Church Yard Sale

In partnership with Newport County Young Life, the Evangelical Friends Church will hold a yard sale fundraiser on Saturday, April 29, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., rain or shine, at 70 Bliss Mine Road, Middletown. Newport County Young Life is a multicultural ministry that is focused on youth in diverse cultural communities and those in economically depressed areas. Locally, it ministers to at-risk pregnant high school girls in Newport County. For information, call 401-847-1490.

Concert at St. Columba’s

St. Columba’s Church will present its final concert of the season on Sunday, April 30, at 4 p.m. in the parish hall at 55 Vaucluse Avenue, Middletown.
