Diamond Jubilee Celebration


Ruth and Ned Cocoran with John Ceglarski (center) Ruth and Ned Cocoran with John Ceglarski (center) A neighborhood celebration of nearly 300 people gathered to say hello to old friends, swap stories, share memories, and honor the principles and guidance that the Boys and Girls Clubs of Newport County provide to youth.

The important milestone of “A Celebration of 60 Years” was held at the Hotel Viking, on Saturday, March 25, where there was reflection on the club’s history and influential supporters were honored. Lifetime achievement honorees included Tony Ames, Edward B. “Ned” and Ruth Corcoran, the Grosvenor family, Thomas F. Hastings and Kathy Cranson, Joseph T. Houlihan, Justice Florence K. Murray, and Glenn Rose.

Congratulations also went to Rogers High School senior Matthew Marshall, who was selected as the Club’s “Youth of the Year.” Tisa Ford, a student at Middletown High School, was also recognized as a nominee for the annual accolade.


Mary Ann Hastings, Geraldine Rose, and Glenn Rose Jr. Mary Ann Hastings, Geraldine Rose, and Glenn Rose Jr. Joseph Pratt, the club’s executive director, put the evening in perspective with an important reference to all of the club’s “great strides made in serving local youth and preparing them to be productive, responsible, and caring citizens.”
