Family Movie Night

Lenten and Sanctuary

Central Baptist Church, 99 Narragansett Ave., Jamestown, will present its ‘Lenten Soup and Sanctuary’ series on Wednesdays, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. through April 5. It is open to the public and will include a light soup lunch, quiet meditation and music.

‘Vocation of Hospitality’

On Sunday, March 19, Rev. Alan Neale, assisting priest, will present the third discussion in a five-part series using examples to cultivate a mind for hospitality and its positive effect on all areas of life at Trinity Church, Honyman Hall, from 9-9:45 a.m. All are welcome to attend. 401-846-0660.

Emmanuel’s Lenten Study

Emmanuel Church, 42 Dearborn St., will continue its Lenten study series on Wednesday, March 22, at 6:45 p.m. and continue through April 5. 401-847-0675.

‘Wednesdays in Lent’

The Church of Saint John the Evangelist, 61 Poplar St., will present “Wednesdays in Lent: The Meaning of Ministry,” through April 5, 6:30-8 p.m. in the Guild Hall with a light supper of soup and bread. On Wednesday, March 22, the Reverend Andrew Mead will speak on the meaning of sacramental ministry. 401-848-2561.

Mini-Retreats Series

Trinity Church, Queen Anne Square, invites the community to experience The Holy through touch, taste, sight and smell. The retreats include prayer, a simple meal, a brief address and reflecting and exploring the presence of God using one sense at a time. Upcoming sessions will be on Wednesdays, 7-8:30 p.m., on March 22 and 29, and on April 5. 401-846-0660.

EFC Newport MOPS Vendor Fair

MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers), part of a global organization connecting moms across the world, will hold a mom-run businesses fair on Saturday, March 18, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m., at the Newport Athletic Club. Proceeds will benefit MOPS projects and ministry opportunities. 401-330-9055.

Hathor Winds Performance

On Saturday, March 18, at 5 p.m., Boston woodwind quintet Hathor Winds will perform at Trinity Church on Queen Anne Square. The concert includes selections by George Gershwin, Maurice Ravel and others. Admission is by donation. 401-846-0660.

Solar Sunday

A presentation on the new Interfaith Solar Initiative presented by Rhode Island Interfaith Power and Light and Smart Power, will be held Sunday, March 19 at 11:30 a.m., at Emmanuel Church. It is a multi-denominational effort designed to bring solar power to faith institutions, their members and to educate people on the financial and environmental benefits of solar electricity. 401-847-0675.

Alexandre Moutouzkine and Friends in Concert

Three pianists and a flutist will perform a free concert at St. Matthew’s Church, 87 Narragansett Ave., Jamestown, Sunday, March 19, at 2 p.m. 401- 423-0515.

‘The Activism of ACT UP’

On Sunday, March 19, at 7 p.m., Channing Memorial Church, will present a program about the activism of the advocacy group AIDS Coalition To Unleash Power (ACT UP). A potluck dinner will be held at 5:30 p.m. 401-595-9068.

Organ Concert

The Arts and Cultural Alliance (ACA) of Newport County will present an Arts Behind the Scenes event at St. John's Church on Saturday, March 18, at 3 p.m. The focus of the event is the historic Hook and Hastings organ. Tickets are $12, available at newportarts.org.

‘Fill the Freezer’ Meat Drive

Channing Memorial Church invites the community to participate in a drive to collect fresh meat for the Florence Gray food pantry freezer. Food drives will take place at Channing Church, 135 Pelham St., on Sunday, March 19, from 9:30 a.m.- noon and the other will be at the Florence Gray Center, 1 York St., on Monday, March 20, from 9 a.m.- 3 p.m. 401-846-0643.

Pancake Breakfast

An all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast will be held Sunday, March 26, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church to benefit the Haitian Mountain School. The cost to attend is $7 per person or $20 for a family.
