La Francophonie

March is the international month of La Francophonie, a celebration of the French language and the culture of Francophone communities around the world. The Alliance Française of Newport is celebrating La Francophonie with a special program on Sunday, March 5, at 2 p.m. at Salve Regina University, Antone Academic Center.

French Naval Commander Christophe Charpentier will talk about the Islands of Brittany—with a focus on the rich traditions and history of their people. The program will be in French. Questions will be in English.

This is a free event sponsored by the Alliance Française of Newport and is open to the public. Reservations are required. To make a reservation, contact Mary-Gail Smith, AFN President, at 401-601-5515 or by email at afnewportri@gmail.com.

The Alliance Française of Newport, part of an international organization for over 60 years, is dedicated to the study of the French language and to promoting cultural exchange. Members of the AFN participate in conversation groups, cultural events such as the French Film Festival, art gallery and museum events, as well as lectures about French history and culture.
